O secretário de Estado dos Estados Unidos, Marco Rubio, e o papa Leão XIV terão uma "conversa franca" sobre as políticas do governo Trump durante uma reunião no Vaticano na quinta-feira, disse nesta terça (5) o embaixador dos EUA junto à Santa Sé.

“As nações têm divergências, e acho que uma das formas de lidar com isso é por meio da fraternidade e do diálogo autêntico. (...) Acho que o secretário está vindo aqui com esse espírito, para ter uma conversa franca sobre a política dos EUA, para se engajar no diálogo”, afirmou a jornalistas Brian Burch, que representa o governo norte-americano no Vaticano.
A fala de Burch se somou às expectativas para o encontro entre o secretário dos EUA e papa Leão XIV, que ocorrerá na quinta-feira (7). A visita de Rubio ao Vaticano está prevista para ocorrer entre quarta e sexta desta semana.
O encontro entre o representante direto do presidente dos EUA, Donald Trump, e o líder da Igreja Católica ocorre em meio a uma escalada de tensões entre os dois. Eles demonstram diferenças ideológicas desde que Leão XIV foi eleito pontífice, há cerca de um ano, porém trocaram farpas diretas nas últimas semanas.
Trump chamou o papa de "fraco" e disse, sem apresentar provas, que o pontífice "acha tudo bem que o Irã tenha uma arma nuclear";
Em resposta, Leão XIV disse que não tem medo de Trump;
Dias depois, Trump voltou a cutucar Leão XIV dizendo que o pontífice estaria desinformado sobre execuções de manifestantes pelo regime iraniano;
Em meio à polêmica, Trump gerou controvérsia ao postar uma montagem de IA que o retratava como Jesus Cristo;
O papa acabou colocando panos quentes na polêmica ao afirmar que não é de seu interesse debater com Trump.
A polêmica, que tornou explícita a rixa entre o governo Trump e o primeiro papa norte-americano da História, marcou um endurecimento da postura de Leão XIV desde que ele se tornou pontífice. O embate causou uma negativa nos EUA, com possível prejuízo político para o republicano.

An explosion at a fireworks plant in a central Chinese province has killed at least 26 people and injured 61, prompting the halting of all firework manufacturing near the site.
The blast occurred in the city of Changsha, in Hunan province, on Monday afternoon, China’s official news agency Xinhua said. China Daily said the plant was operated by the Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Co in the Changsha-administered, county-level city of Liuyang.
